Homemade Vanilla Extract is super easy to make and lasts forever. All you need is vanilla beans and vodka!
I bought a pack of 25 vanilla beans. Grade B beans is fine as you are using them for extraction. You slice the vanilla bean in 1/2 and place inside the container of your choice. I put 1-2 vanilla beans in each 4oz container. Then pour vodka over to fill the container. I recommend using a mid grade vodka - like a Svedka or something similar. Store in a cool, dark place for as long as you can. The longer you leave it, the darker the extract will become. (it is now 2018 in the picture on the left) Shake your containers every few days as you remember it. When you are ready to gift, buy or make a cute label and give it away! Feel free to keep the vanilla beans in or out of the gift - it is up to you. I ended up with some leftover vanilla beans so I made some vanilla sugar for me to use while baking over the holidays. |
